Scott Stroud opened the doors in June 1982 out of Shreveport, Louisiana.  Since opening the Stroud entities have drilled and operated wells across Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas.  The Stroud Companies maintain a robust staff of highly qualified experts in their field including engineering, land, geology, legal, and accounting.  A large part of our success is attributed to keeping the entire process in-house from the idea phase to the drill bit.

Scott Stroud

President

Scott Stroud founded Stroud Exploration in 1996 and currently serves as its President.  Scott also serves as President of Stroud Petroleum Inc. which he founded in 1982 and now exists as the operating affiliate of Stroud Exploratio.  Scott has been active in the oil and gas business for over 45 years.  During his career he has been professionally focused on every phase necessary for exploration and production activities; specifically, he spent years working as a landman, an exploration geologist, and after forming Stroud Exploration, overseeing the day-to-day drilling, completion, and production operations for SPI.

Scott received a B.S. in Finance from Arizona State University in 1979 and a B.S. in Geology from Centenary College in 1981.  He is both a certified Petroleum Landman and a Certified Petroleum Geologist.

Nathan Harvey

COO

Nathan Harvey has served as Chief Operating Officer for Stroud Exploration, Stroud Petroleum, and Fontainebleau Operating since 2024. He began his oil and gas career in 2014 as Chief Financial Officer for the Stroud Companies. From 2021 to 2024, he held the dual role of COO/CFO at a large oil and gas service company based in the Haynesville Shale before returning to the Stroud Companies.

With over a decade of industry experience, Nathan has been involved in all phases of the prospect generation process, with a particular focus on the financial and operational aspects of the business.

He earned a B.S. in Accounting and Sociology, with minors in History and Economics, from Louisiana Tech University in 2008.

Thane Huggs

General Counsel

Thane L. Huggs serves as general counsel to Stroud Exploration Company, L.L.C.  In this role, Thane is responsible for the oversight and execution of the Company’s transactions as well as directing all legal matters that come before the Company.   

Prior to obtaining his undergraduate degree, Thane served four years in the United States Marine Corps.  Following his time in the Marine Corps, Thane spent ten years working for the Huggs Companies, a closely held affiliation of family businesses engaged in the exploration and development of oil and gas, gas transportation and real estate investments.  Thane contributed to all aspects of the operation of these companies and served as the comptroller before resigning to attend law school in 1998.  Thane received a B.S. degree in General Business Administration at Louisiana State University in Shreveport and a J.D. from Southern Methodist University School of Law, with honors.  He was admitted to practice law in Texas in November, 2001.  Following graduation from law school, he remained in Dallas working as an associate with Andrews and Kurth, L.P.  In 2002, Thane followed several partners who left Andrews and Kurth, L.P. to form the Dallas office of Larson-King, LLP, which later merged into the first Texas office of Greenberg Traurig, L.P.  Thane’s area of legal practice while in Dallas concentrated on transactional work.  Thane returned to Shreveport in 2004 where he practiced law with the firm of Blanchard, Walker, O’Quin & Roberts, working primarily on oil and gas matters.  He resigned his position with Blanchard Walker in 2005 to assume the position of General Counsel and Land Manager with Louisiana Gas Development Corporation where he worked before joining Stroud Exploration Company in early 2009.

Gary Abrams

Chief Geology

Gary Abrams , as an exploration geologist at Stroud Exploration since 2002, has been involved in all phases of prospect generation, evaluation and development in East Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Wyoming.  Gary is experienced in regulatory matters and is recognized as an expert witness in Louisiana.  He has also served on numerous trade organization boards including Secretary, Vice President and President of the Shreveport Geological Society.  He received a B.S. in geology from Vanderbilt University in 1982 and an M.S. in geology from the University of Texas, El Paso in 1986.

Steve Harris

Charles Steven “Steve” Harris - Currently 65 years old in 2025.

50 years of wide-ranging operations experience in almost all phases of drilling and completions of Oil, Gas & Up-stream gathering. Starting in 1975 in and around the Cotton Valley, La oilfields and surrounding areas, working summer’s and holiday’s as a roustabout, welder’s helper, continuing thru my time at La Tech, graduating in 1981. Moved to Poplar, Mt with Murphy Oil Corp., Worked for Murphy for 15 years in Montana, South Arkansas, East Texas, West Texas, Mississippi & Alabama, spending the last 10 years in SE Texas/SW Louisiana. After leaving Murphy, moved my family (wife of 40yrs & 3 kids) back to N Louisiana to work for Herd Operating in Haynesville La for 2 years. Then left to work as an Independent Consultant mostly in the Ark-La-Tex, SE Texas, SW Louisiana. In 2000 took an in-house Operations Manager role with O’Brien Energy Co, working up over 20 years to Senior Vice President of Operation, focused in the Ark-La-Tex, WTX, MS and adding 3 more operational basins – Oklahoma, Kansas and Illinois, managing at times 7 drilling rigs, drilling vertical and horizontal wells and associated completions/workovers and day-to-day production operations, also design and buildout of several large Up-stream gathering and treating systems with capacity upward of +60 MMCF/d.

In August of 2019 joined, as Operations Manager, a seasoned, successful, creative team at Stroud Exploration which is a long standing Geology-focused oil and gas company – exploring for Oil & Gas as in the earlier days of the industry - finding and developing Geological prospects, acquiring land rights, drilling, completing and operating for our various partnerships through our two operating companies – Stroud Petroleum Co and Fontainebleau Operating LLC. Working in some of the same places I have worked since 1975. We also strategically evaluate and acquire property to add to our operational base which provides to the industry a full spectrum in-house G&A, Regulatory & Technical staff.

May, 1981 - Graduated with an Associate of Science - Petroleum Engineering from Louisiana Tech University.

Resident of Bossier City, LA since 1999, wife of 40 years, 3 children with families, 5 grandchildren. No hobbies that do not include the family or God.
